Intensive English Program Description
Intensive English Program students at Value Tutoring build practical English skills for general, academic or professional purposes. The program offers six sessions at the comfort of your own home or at a designated meeting place. Each session lasts 1-2 hours for a period of seven weeks. In one year, ESL students should be able to progress through the six-level core program. Classes meet according to your schedule.
Goals for New English Speakers - Level 1 & 2
In Levels 1-2, students concentrate on developing fundamental English skills in an interactive classroom setting. Course work emphasizes those skills necessary for effective oral and written communication. Instruction covers all areas of language development: practical vocabulary, basic language structures, and the essentials of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Goals for English Speakers - Levels 3 & 4
In Levels 3-4, students continue to develop fluency and accuracy. Students enroll in one course focusing on comprehensive skills, and in a second class that enables them to expand their skills for work, school, and everyday situations. University-bound students enroll in a course that emphasizes skill areas such as academic writing, note taking and oral presentation skills. Students with a more general focus take a communication skills course that concentrates on current issues or cultural aspects of American life. Grammar, writing, and reading is stressed at this level too.
